Children are the future and it is the responsibility of adults to protect them and ensure that they get the best footing in life.
Just kids No They Are Not “Just Kids”
Well I can’t quit tell what has been happening to me for the last few nights, what I know is that I have felt helpless. Since the beginning of this month I have not been able to sleep well. I wake up at weird hours sweating and tears just flow from my eyes. Last week I remember waking up at 4am and all I could do is talk to God. I don’t remember what I said to him but I know he has ignited a something I didn’t know existed! I remember thinking, “Lord, what I can do to make a difference with the children? So much happening on my watch, no way NOT ON MY WATCH “
This week Kenyan police fueled outrage by tear-gassing schoolchildren who were protesting over a playground. The children, along with teachers and activists, were demonstrating after the playground was walled off during the holidays, Riot police responded to the demonstration by unleashing plumes of tear gas that sent the children fleeing in panic. This has affected me, I want to do something but I don’t know what. The actions of that day broke my heart, seriously how do you through a teargas canister to a child? No “ifs” or “buts”. Violence against children is indefensible. It’s CRIMINAL.
I must say this month, my passion and purpose have clearly been told to me by God. For a long time I have lived life dreaming small dreams that have nothing to do with God’s vision for me! I wanted to become a pilot, own my own house at 20, and marry a hot wife and cute kids at 23. I never at any time thought I would love kids. I have come to discover, none of us was created to go to school, get a job, make money, perhaps get married and/or have children and then die! We were created to live for a great vision; something that is much bigger than ourselves.
What I am saying is, this year my passion is clearer, I am passionate about children. I have come to know that we can discover our purpose when we understand the things we are passionate about and connect them to what we see as the world’s greatest need. I believe in addition though, that what we think is the world’s greatest need is often a great indicator of what our passion is!
This month I have felt a great need in protecting the children, they are crying out for help…… I get really disturbed whenever I hear about Lack of Access to Education, Child Neglect, Child Labor, Child Prostitution among others, my heart just weeps.
They are Just Not Kids…. In the words of Martin Luther King: Treasure each and every child – teach them to dream- who knows but they just might grow up to be a King.
