Seasons

Amanda & Mordecai Njoroge

As summer comes to an end, I am savoring every moment of sunshine, having experienced the hardship of bleak winters. It’s amazing how we forget the previous season’s starkness in the midst of the current one. I’m eagerly anticipating fall, with its rich hues, splendid foliage, and comfy sweaters. Life is a series of seasons, some vibrant and glamorous, while others are dull and desolate. I cherish memories of cherished moments, successful accomplishments, and joyful times with loved ones. Simultaneously, I carry painful memories of suffering that I wish I could erase.

Recently, I married my lovely and adorable wife, Amanda. As I reflect on our journey from being girlfriend and boyfriend to being engaged and then married, I realize that life is full of transitions. We’re both venturing into unknown territory, figuring out how to coexist and adapt to each other’s quirks. This experience has made me ponder the seasons of life.

We’re all somewhere in the journey of our lives. Some of us are starting college, new jobs, or embarking on new relationships, while others are coping with deep pain such as diagnoses, breakups, job loss, and the loss of loved ones. Perhaps you’re feeling stuck in a particular season that you long to leave. We’re all unique, with our distinct stories and experiences, but we’re all on this journey together.

Lately, I have been asking myself, what story do I want to tell in every season I find myself in? The Psalmist writes:

“I was young, and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be a blessing.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭37:25-26‬ ‭NIV‬‬

David’s life was a mosaic of both joy and suffering. Despite being disregarded by his father and despised by his brothers, he never lost faith in God. Even when he was forced to flee for his life, David understood that God would never abandon His people. The Almighty is always by our side, fighting with us and never leaving us to struggle alone.

I always encourage my friends to look back and see how far they’ve come, regardless of the season they’re in. We must never give up, even in the face of adversity, because God is with us. Therefore, my brethren, I urge you to reflect on how God has remained faithful and never abandoned you. Remember that you are His son or daughter, created in His image, and nothing can ever separate you from His love. Embrace your current season, lean into it, and discover what God has in store for you, both now and in the future. Take a snapshot of this moment and cherish it, knowing that the sun will shine once more.
