Are there times you feel inadequate?

Last week I met with one of Great CEO we have here in Nairobi, I did not know why he called m, but he said I should be smartly dress. One thing I know for sure is that he believes in me more that I do for myself . So I arrive at the reception and his secretary warmly welcomed me and  let me in as the boss was expecting me. When I got to his office, he welcomed me and asked how I was doing! So after I explain how I was doing, he took a deep  breath and said, “Mordecai, I have observed you for a very long time and you have a great future ahead of you” deep down I tried to convince myself that I was inadequate. Well, he went to say that I am a great leader called to do more.

He then requested me to join him in a meeting he was holding with some of his partners in business. As we walked into the boardroom, sat this suited men, serious looking and smelled so nice. we sat down and he went on to introduce me, as they dived into their day agenda. They went around presenting what they had prepared for the meeting as I sat down listening to all annual goals that did not make sense to me the. As they ended the meeting, the boss turned to me and had them ask me a few questions with regards to community engagement. Immediately, a small rush went through my body, my hands began to shake and for a moment my mind went blank. I knew I wasn’t supposed to say anything; however they all insisted that I should say something. I stood up and started saying how nervous I felt. Long story short, somehow I deliver a short but comprehensible speech and everyone clapped. After the meeting everyone come to me and said how great I did, not quit sure if they meant it or not, until some of them would request to formally meet them at their offices for further discussions. I just can’t tell you how some things happen to me… it’s just God. All throughout, I felt so inadequate, not even supposed to be in that meeting.

How about you? Are there times you feel inadequate? Well Inadequacy is an interesting feeling. Sometimes I feel confident in life and things go well, but in the past and more lately I feel so inadequate in everything, I worry all the time that I am not the best and there are others who can do more, however there are times I stand and do something and it turns out well .most times I tend to feel young and not experienced. Well this brings me to the story of David in the bible ……

He was only a young boy when he cared for his sheep and was the youngest of his siblings. Yet, he was the one chosen by God to be the king of his people. , David was only a boy of 8 to 12 years old. God knew that though David was young, he would grow up to be a man in tune with God’s heart and plan for Israel. The story of him killing Goliath goes on to show us how David felt very adequate to kill Goliath despite everyone looking down on him. So David volunteered to fight Goliath. It took some persuasion, but King Saul finally agreed to let David fight against the giant. Dressed in his simple tunic, carrying his shepherd’s staff, sling and a pouch full of stones, David approached Goliath. The giant cursed at him, hurling threats and insults. He did kill him, well everybody dint expect that but he took courage and believed in himself because he had a God who had gone before him.

Just like David, most time I am faced with situations I feel inadequate I always ask God to fight it for me. So often, when facing situations, we forget what we ought to remember, and we remember what we ought to forget. We remember our defeats, and we forget the victories. Most of us can recite the failures of our lives in vivid detail, but we’re hard-pressed to name the specific, remarkable victories God has pulled off in our past. Not so with David! He says, “You know why I can fight Goliath, Saul? Because the same God who gave me power over a lion and a bear will give me power over Goliath. It is God who will empower me. . . so just let me at him.”

Next time I get to such meeting I will act like a CEO as well. So this year I have told myself , I won’t feel inadequate, not able , too young ( the so many voices ) that all say I can’t. But instead I will rely on God Promises that say, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. There are so many opportunities out there for everyone, you just have to believe you can and just when no one believes you can, GO KILL THAT GOLIATH and they will know the God you serve is a God of possibility.

Dude, this is inspiring. I feel inadequate a lot and i always use Joshua 1:9 (Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”) to keep walking with my head held high.
